So what gives? What’s with the giveaway?

Five weeks in India and it was a blast! We are now 6 days into discovering Southeast Asia, but we are still missing India. One of our favorite memories was a miniature painting class that we took in Jaipur.

For those who aren’t familiar with miniature painting, it’s an art form that came to India by the Mughals in the 16th century and was common in the Rajasthan area. It was typically inspired by the life of the Mughals and includes paintings of royal life and romance.

After seeing these types of paintings on display around Jaipur, Rahim and I felt inspired to try it ourselves and add another experience to our artistic adventures on this trip around the world! As some of you may recall, we did a painting class in Florence, Italy, and had to master a drawing of a bowl of fruit. It was a pretty split vote that time on who did the “better” bowl of fruit (although I’m grateful that most of you gave me credit for whichever you thought was the better one – thanks!).

Well the miniature painting class in Jaipur was so much fun, but definitely hard work! We were guided through narrow alleyways and around sculpting and marble shops and eventually found ourselves inside the workshop of Jaipur’s leading miniature painting artist. He patiently spent a few hours with us as we tried to follow his suggestions and techniques. After trying our hand at this art, we realized that these artists are seriously talented and that there is a reason this art form is so appreciated!

These are in no way comparable to the “real” paintings out there, but check out our final products! Can you guess who did which one?

So that brings us to this contest…We wish we could send you all a miniature painting to hang in your home (and don’t worry, I’m referring to a real painting, not one of ours!), but instead we were only able to buy three pieces (including the one at the top of the page!). We’ve decided to have a little contest to choose our three winners and share this amazing souvenir. Hopefully we will be sending you one soon!
