The Unknown

In August 2014, Rahim decided to leave his job in the tech industry and take some time off. His suggestion? Sell our home and car, purge all unnecessary items, and just go where the wind takes us. So, what did I think of this idea? Let’s just say that I had to take a few deep breaths. It’s not because of the traveling. As a matter of fact, I think I love traveling a little more than Rahim does. Airplanes excite me, my passport is always with me “just in case”, and I subscribe to nearly every travel site out there. (My parents say that I took my first steps on an airplane en route to Paris, so I blame them for this love affair!). Anyway, my point is that it is not the traveling that scared me. It was fear of stepping away from our comfort zone and into the land of the unknown. Leave our apartment? But where will we live when we get back? Quit our jobs? Um..hello…no income?! Leave for four, five, six months? Where would we go? What would we do? Where would we stay? Insert panic here! But then, after a short pause, I thought…What is wrong with you?! This is a chance to travel around the world! Not only is it something that I’ve always wanted to do but something that I would get to do with Rahim.

So after some discussion of how this could work, I also took some time away from work, we rented our apartment, we purged while we packed, and we made a general plan of our route and the stops along the way. It may not be a complete abandonment of our previous lives, but it definitely feels like we have let go of a lot and are prepared for something new. Now here I am with my boyfriend…err..fiancé (did I mention that he proposed the weekend before we left?!) and we are sitting in the airport lounge ready to start this adventure. Thanks for taking the ride with us 🙂
